• In Salinas, the farms of the future are taking shape with the Steinbeck Innovation Cluster, an initiative that connects Salinas Valley to Silicon Valley to address the world’s biggest challenges in water, sustainability, food safety, precision agriculture and more.
  • Salinas hosts “Forbes Reinventing America: The AgTech Summit,” July 8-9, 2015, which brings together the smartest minds in Silicon Valley and global agriculture to tackle some of the world’s most critical challenges.
  • Salinas-based agribusiness company Taylor Farms has built a 100,000-square-foot headquarters office in historic Old Town Salinas. The facility opened in the summer of 2015, and will employ approximately 200 people.
  • The Salinas Valley is training the next generation of skilled professionals, producing 5,000 graduates annually. Salinas is home to Hartnell College and in close proximity to an abundance of world-class higher education institutions.
  • The Western Growers Association and Silicon Valley-based SVG Partners will launch an AgTech innovation center in December 2015 in Salinas. It will give entrepreneurs and innovators access to Western Growers mentors and office space.
  • American Takii, one of the largest producers of flower and vegetable seeds in the world, has opened a multi-million dollar seed facility in Salinas. This facility will serve as the primary logistics hub of the Americas, offering new business opportunities and employment growth throughout the region.
  • With one foot in its fields and another edged toward Silicon Valley, Salinas is trying to reboot itself as the agricultural technology center of California. It hopes to turn the sons and daughters of farmworkers into coders for the next generation of data-driven, automated farming in a valley known as the salad bowl of the world.
  • The National Civic League announced Salinas to be an All-American City Award recipient for 2015. To be considered for this award, a community must demonstrate innovation, inclusiveness, civic engagement, and cross sector collaboration.
